Customers whose date of birth falls between January and June may pay a prorated fee in order to renew their registrations for 1 to 18 months in December 2020. HVUT stands for Heavy Vehicle Use Tax, which is an annual federal highway tax levied on those heavy motor vehicles using our public highways, including trucks, tractors, and buses. The tax is only applicable to vehicles with a gross taxable weight of 55,000 pounds or more. For highway building and repair programs, the federal government then distributes taxes back to the states.

Section 320.02(7), Florida Laws allows motor carriers before issuing a license to have proof of payment or exemption from HVUT on motor vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 55,000 pounds or more.
